Criminal damage

Saturday saw the grand opening of Ukip's office and shop in Llanelli. Cheap, tacky and an embarrassment to Llanelli was the reaction of a good many passers-by.

Regeneration

The party did not go well, with Ukip supporters allegedly shouting homophobic, anti-Semitic and racist abuse at anyone they did not like the look of, and matters reached a dramatic climax when a young woman called Branwen Alaw Evans entered into the spirit of things and popped a Ukip balloon (click here to see the action).

Gethin James, Ukip's candidate in Ceredigion, was outraged by this wanton act of criminal damage and reported the matter to Dyfed Powys police who now face being called out to every kiddies' birthday party where somebody pops somebody else's ballon.

Oh, and balloons are really bad for the environment:

Cneifiwr, where is the evidence that somebody from UKIP shouted racist or homophobic abuse outside the shop?

But of course you will not be able to find any will you, because it simply did not happen.

The only abuse came from a few rather unsavory protesters that gathered outside intent on disrupting things and a rather silly young girl from Plaid who burst a balloon outside the shop and then littered the pavement with it, the evidence of that is available for all to see.

Never mind though, please don't let the truth get in the way of any attempt to smear UKIP

Anon@17.00 If you read the story again you will see that allegations of racism, homophobia and anti-semitism were made, and the story ends with Gethin James's denial.

However, if you are looking for evidence of racism and homophobia in Ukip, you don't have to look far. In fact it is obvious that Farage's party is riddled with it from top to bottom - here's just one example from hundreds, so many in fact that everyone has lost count, and this one is from one of Ukip's MEPs:

Cneifiwr, as I have said, where is the evidence of your allegations against UKIP Llanelli or do you not need any evidence as it just simply serves your political goals?

Nobody from UKIP abused anybody on Saturday but we certainly do have video evidence of criminal damage to UKIP property by Plaid Cymru? If such action had been done towards Plaid by UKIP you would have certainly made a very big meal of it indeed, if Plaid do it though it's just a bit of harmless fun of course.

Plaid have in effect encouraged further criminal damage in Llanelli to UKIP property and they are also encouraging the littering of the streets of Llanelli, was Branwen not brought up to treat others with respect and decency? One doubts it very much.

Anyway is Vaughan Williams going to condemn such action by one of his activists or does he simply just not care or perhaps even supports it?

Anon@00.36 Just to put this into perspective, we are talking about someone bursting a balloon.

Readers will make up their own minds, and I suspect a rather bigger balloon will pop on 7 May.

Are you sure you haven't got your dates mixed up? It's not April Fools' Day for another couple of weeks.

I cannot believe that anyone more than four or five years old would whinge about their balloon being burst. And as for calling it "criminal damage" ...... maybe it's the pantomine season rather than 1st April?

What an absolute farce. And these people think that one of their ilk is fit to represent us in Westminster? If it wasn't so frightening it would be hilarious.
Now I know for certain that we're living in a mad world.

Poor Gethin... I assume he contacted MI5 and the FBI... Navy Seals too. Ukip the joke that keeps on giving.
I once popped a balloon, I'll hand myself in for 50 years in solitary.

Cneifiwr, to put this into perspective, this was a very childish act by a Plaid activist who also filmed it and then posted it on the net as she was obviously very proud of it, this was simply an act by Plaid activists and encourages others to damage UKIP property, and we have certainly seen this across the country.

If such an act had been committed by UKIP against Plaid I have no doubt that you would have taken a different viewpoint?

No consistency and no principles from Plaid, but what's new?

Anon@21.12 We are now into Day 5 of Ukip Llanelli's official mourning for the balloon. Thank goodness nobody threw any custard pies.

That balloon had one day left til retirement! I also believe it was made in Romania!

The balloon lives on... in all our hearts.

It simply was "the people's balloon."

It died for Freedom and against the Fascist cause !! should we erect a plaque to commemorate its contribution

There's definitely material here for one of your pantomime scripts Cyneifiwr.

Cneifiwr, if Branwen wanted to release some gas into the air she could have just reeled off a load of Plaid's policies instead of bursting that UKIP balloon? The whole of Llanelli would have been talking in a high pitched voice last Saturday.

Anon 1406 I almost fell our my chair... HILARIOUS!

Perhaps we could have a blue plaque erected by Llanelli Community Heritage to mark the balloon's passing?

Ruth I think that's a great idea. In fact I'd suggest we owe it to the balloon and it's friends and family.
We should remember the balloon when it was at its happiest. Swaying car free in the wind... I can't find the words to describe the sadness in my heart. Seems pointless to go on living without the balloon
