A Bad Week for Calum

It looks as though Labour's 2015 election campaign in Carmarthen East and Dinefwr is over before it even started. Fresh revelations about Calum Higgins have appeared in the normally Labour-leaning Western Mail here.

The full-time postgraduate course in Cardiff; the part-time paid job with Llanelli AM Keith Davies; the role as county councillor for Tycroes; a whole string of committee memberships and vice chair of the council's Working Group on the Welsh language; add to that Calum's recent adoption as Labour's official candidate for the 2015 general election and his decision to move to Cardiff.

There is no doubt that Calum is highly ambitious and thrust himself forward, but the real blame for this debacle lies with the Labour Party in Carmarthenshire which must surely have known that all of these jobs and responsibilities could not possibly add up.

What they have shown once again is utter contempt for the people of Carmarthenshire in the belief that you can stick a Labour rosette on anything and it will get elected.

Well, not round here.

Plaid gutter tactics -Callum living at home with parents , studying to complete his education{one year course and I am told he is a good constituent county councillor
2012/13 good attendance at Council meetings .
Alun Davies Saron {neighbouring ward] should be a] getting his facts right before allowing Plaid Press releases in his name b] and working together to help their constituents .

I can't help feel that by selecting Calum Higgins, (and this is merely an observation), Labour themselves do not seriously believe they have a chance against Jonathan Edwards in Carms East and Dinefwr. If they were, then a far more experienced politician would have been parachuted in. According to Kevin Madge, Plaid are "petrified" of Mr Higgins. I don't think so. Strange that Mr Madge himself didn't put himself forward, perhaps it was memories of being soundly defeated by Plaid's Rhodri Glyn Thomas in the 2007 Assembly elections.

Calum Higgins announced on Facebook that he was moving to Cardiff. Labour says he is living at home with his parents.

Only one of those statements can be true.

Facebook is not true, apparently the fact Callum added Cardiff University the system assumed he is living there - so ring his parents and ask them !! Seeking the truth Cneifiwr don't always believe what you read in the press !! or in Blogs.

@ anon 08:09 - I think you are confused! What you are arguing is that Calum updated his places lived profile in facebook and by doing so the system assumed he was living in Cardiff. Rubbish as he, like any other facebook user can select their current hometown! Moreover the system cannot ANNOUNCE that Calum was moving to Cardiff he or any other user would need to type this information in for themselves. Next thing you will be telling us is that Calum's facebook was fraped!!!

Dirty Tricks happen who in politics is clean - Plaid is not !!

Erm how much time did the Labour Spokesman say Calum spends up in Cardiff? Is he referring to the time spent on his work as an assistant to AM Keith Davies? Surely the spokesman cannot be referring to Calum's post graduate course for the reasons below!

The Bar Professional Training Course: One trick is to treat the BPTC year much like that of a full time job. Committing yourself to working 9-6 Monday to Friday will allow you to attend all your classes and give you time around these to do extra study and preparation.

Most, if not all of the law schools run the timetable across four days. This leaves you with the perfect opportunity to complete a day or half a days volunteering to meet the pro bono requirement of the BPTC course.

"Not living in his constituency or county with a poor attendance at Council Meetings whilst working publicly funded for an Assembly Member?"
Surely that sounds exactly like the now Carmarthen Plaid Cymru Councillor Darren Price when he was a Swansea Councillor and led Plaid Cymru to total annihilation in Swansea. That's FACT not fiction from someone who has no time for Labour or Plaid Cymru.

Anon @14.59 Darren Price ran an extremely effective campaign in the 2012 election - the margin of his success surprised a lot of people - and he did that through solid hard work. He has proved to be a very effective councillor, and his attendance record is extremely good.

Carmarthenshire's gain is Swansea's loss.

Sheep Shearer, You got it all wrong. Swansea's gain was getting rid of Price. Your loss is that Price led Plaid Cymru in Swansea into total annhialation and oblivion. That's FACT and you cannot deny FACT. He did not live in Swansea he rarely attended meetings in Swansea and he was paid publicly to work for Dai Loyd AM who also lost his seat here. The only elected representative Plaid Cymru has in Swansea is Bethan Jenkins AM who has never been seen to my knowledge in Swansea and effectively she was elected in a party meeting of less than ten people to go top of a regional list which guaranteed here a job in Cardiff Bay. These are FACTS Sheep Shearer

Well, Mr Crac @19.41, I get your point that you don't like Darren very much. As a matter of interest, and seeing that you are anonymous, could you tell us who gets your vote?
